Mystery plant

Hi everyone

My flower bed at the allotment has lots of this mysterious plant growing in it – the fluffy plant in the middle of the picture below.

It self-seeded itself and I’m not sure what it is – has anyone got any idea? It looks like fennel but there is so much of it in the bed that I can’t think that it is…last year I had cornflower in the bed, could that be it? It doesn’t look familiar.

What is this plant?

FLF Plant Sale and Open Day

Farnham Local Food are holding a plant sale and open day on Saturday 18th May. All of the plants on offer are grown by members of the group and there should be a good selection. You are welcome to come along and see what there is on offer. While you are there, enjoy some homemade cakes and chat to other gardening enthusiasts. The group will also be firing up the cob oven they made during their recent workshop, so there may be fresh pizza to eat. There will even be some live music to enjoy and fun activities for the children. Admission is free.

The event will run from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the group’s Runfold site. For more details, visit the website www.farnhamfood.com, or phone 0843 557 1569 and leave a message. Live music on the day will be from folk musician Sandy Flett, and members of the Surrey Hills Ukelele Band.

FLF Runs Pizza Cob Oven Workshop

Farnham Local Food are running a weekend workshop where you will be able to learn how to make your own pizza cob oven. The oven will use natural, locally available materials. The workshop will be led by Sid Saunders, an experienced builder of cob ovens both in the UK and the USA.

During the weekend you will learn how to make the various cob mixes, how to make build the base for the oven, and how to mould the oven to the desired shape. You will need to wear old clothes, as it is messy work.

The workshop will be held at the group’s Runfold site on Saturday 27th April to Sunday 28th April. The workshop costs £150 for the whole weekend, including lunches. That is not expensive when you see how much a similar oven costs to buy. Concessions are available, depending on your ability to pay.

To book you place, email Penny at penney.hames@hotmail.co.uk, or call 01420 87395. There are only 15 places available, and they are going fast.

Farnham Local Food is a not-for-profit organization that grows fresh, local vegetables for its members. To find out more about the group, contact: 0843 557 1569 and leave a message, or visit our website http://www.farnhamfood.com
